We know that not everyone travels all the time. This plan is intended for the occasional traveler. Subscribe to the app only when you need it and then cancel when you don’t. Got a trip coming up next month? Sign up, find great photo spots, and then cancel until your next trip.

PIXEO Pro Plan

Annual Membership at $9.99 a year

Cheaper than the monthly plan, the annual plan is for the travel photographer or local expert. If you travel a lot or want to contribute and benefit from the exposure this is the plan for you. You will save over 30% with the annual plan over the monthly.

To unsubscribe from the PIXEO app, please follow this simple 3 step process:

Step 1 - Access the Account Screen

Open the App and tap the Account icon on the lower right hand side of the screen.

Step 2 - Manage Subscription

On the Account screen select Manage Subscription.

Finally select Cancel Membership

If you have deleted the PIXEO app from your phone and are still subscribed you can unsubscribe by managing your subscription through the iTunes & App Store. The following steps must be followed to unsubscribe.

To be honest, we don’t know. We’re not some big company and scraped just enough money from our savings to build the iPhone version first. While Apps like ours make money, they don’t make a tonne of money. The money PIXEO makes is almost entirely reinvested into improving the app and growing the web version. In addition, we are always saving our pennies and hope to build the Android version one day.

Why iPhone first? Well more of us photographers use iPhones than Androids based on our research. So we picked Apple first.

Image Upload Questions

We run PIXEO out of our kitchen in Ottawa, Ontario and verify every submission manually to make sure the location added is of good quality and value to the users. Typically we try and ensure it only takes an hour or two for a submitted photo to appear on the map. But, it may be longer if it’s the middle of the night in Canada or we are out shooting ourselves.

Here are our general rules and some of the reasons we may reject a photo submission:

  1. Nothing that moves – Geotagged pictures of dogs, cats, people or other animals will generally not be accepted. The exception would be a zoo because if the lion gets away, we’ve got more significant problems.
  2. Too tight – Photos shot close up/macro or do not give a view of the surrounding location may not be accepted.
  3. Out of focus/Bad Exposure– We’re not super critical of image quality, but the image should at least be in focus and properly exposed.
  4. Easy on the Photoshop – We won’t typically reject photos that have been colour graded, are HDR, or otherwise adjusted. We will even allow things like removing powerlines. But if your image is too heavily edited, a composite of various pictures, or otherwise looks “shopped” we may reject it from the collection.
  5. Excessive Text On Image – We allow watermarks on images, but if they are too large, blatant spam, inappropriate or otherwise distracting we may not permit them. We also recommend watermarks be placed on the bottom left side. Finally, any text added in post to the image scene may be a reason for rejection
  6. Inappropriate Pictures – PIXEO won’t accept any images that display pornographic, racist, misogynistic, or bigoted content.
  7. Bad data – If the geotag info is way off we may not be able to verify the location and may not accept the image.
  8. Too Dangerous/Trespassing – If you use this app you take responsibility for your adventures. But we may reject photos that are clearly on private land or may lead a future photog into dangerous areas.
  9. Location already exists – If you are adding a new location that is too close to, or should be part of an existing location, we may reject it to prevent duplication.

If the image is shot on an iPhone PIXEO should read the geo data automatically. When this is not working, please see the next question, “How Do I Get My iPhone to GeoTag My Photos Automatically?”

If you didn’t take the photo with your iPhone, when you upload a picture you’ll see a map pinned to where you are. You can pinch to zoom in and out of this map. Simply place the pin on the map where you took the photo.

When you’re editing the photos on a computer you can add GPS data to the metadata in Lightroom (like this), Photos for Mac (like this), or GeoTag the photos online with a site like GeoImgr.

iPhones by default record the cameras location when you take photos. PIXEO reads this information automatically when you upload your photos. If this feature is disabled, you can turn it back on by:

• Opening Settings
• Selecting “Privacy”
• Selecting “Location Services” • Selecting “Camera”
• Selecting “While Using the App”

Totally, we expected this. We didn’t actually travel to 15,000 locations, so we did our best with satellite photos to make sure each location was good. But time marches on and buildings blow down (global warming is real!) Please leave feedback on the location in the app and let us know what the problem is or drop us a line at help@pixeo.co.

Intellectual Property Questions

No, we’re not smart enough to figure out how to do that. We have enough trouble getting our flash to work.

Firstly, we are extremely sorry. We try very hard to respect the rights of our fellow photographers and acknowledge that there are occasions when an image could make it into our collection by accident, or you may have a change of heart. If this has occurred, we are regretfully sorry and ask that you, please email us at help@pixeo.co and let us know. We will remove it right away.

General Questions

We work very hard to have the most comprehensive collection of photo locations in any app. We are confident you will not find a larger or better collection of photo locations available anywhere. But, the world is quite large, and there will be some places that we haven’t covered yet.

For this reason, we offer the first 30-days at no charge and users can cancel anytime. If it isn’t what you expected we would encourage you to use the app when you travel or be the first in your area to add new locations.

We built the web version to give folks like you a free sample of what the app is like. We continue to add to both of them, but a lot more of our effort goes into the paid version as you can imagine. In addition, we think we’ve priced the app as reasonably as possible while still giving photographers a useful tool on our website.
