📰 Photography New Digest 📰

  • Self-driving car makers are out to destroy your camera! How’s that for a click-bait title? Anyway, be careful around self-driving cars, their lidar can burn your sensor, check out the full story at arstechnica here.
  • I’m a landscape photographer, but I l have a soft spot for wildlife photography. The Guardian has collated the Best of 2018 Wildlife Photography Award Winners and they are wonderful.
  • The dehaze tool in photo editing software can be both a blessing and a curse to landscape photography. I highly recommend this wonderful tutorial by Matt Kloskowski. He demonstrates how to use it selectively to expand the depth in your landscape photography while retaining a natural feel.
  • This week I’m inspired by the amazing Mads Peter Iversen. A master of landscape compositions, be sure to watch his Best Landscape Photography videos, Part 1 and Part 2. They will inspire you to get off your butt and go shoot!
  • In this week’s PIXEO Location feature, discover the fascinating Ruins of San Juan Parangaricutiro. A village buried in lava that should be added to your travel photography bucket list.

American Way in Fort Washington by Vinicius Melo

We had to look twice at this photo from Vinicius Melo. The hyper-real statues at American Way in the National Harbour of Fort Washington can be a bit unnerving in the snow. Nevertheless, they make for a very cool shooting location and an even cooler winter photo (pardon the pun).

Sifton Bog Park in London, Ontario by Julia Scioli

We love contrasty winter scenes and Julia Scioli’s shot of Sifton Bog Park is absolutely gorgeous. A natural black and white with incredible depth and leading lines. We can’t wait to see what this talented photographer submits next!

Cliffs of Moher, Ireland by Doug Golupski

Doug Golupski takes us to a jaw-dropping location in Ireland with this epic shot of the Cliffs of Moher. Not only a stunning view of the Branaunmore sea stack but also home to O’Briens Tower. Doug, as usual, captures it masterfully.

Ingjaldshólskirkja Church in Iceland by Dmitriy Don

Dmitriy Don is back with this lovely Icelandic church built in 1903. It is believed to be the first church in the world built entirely of concrete. Dmitriy masterfully composes it at the end of the single lane road that leads to it. Great shot and location Dmitriy!

St. Paul's Cathedral in London, England by Ashley Garvin

We begin and end this week’s PIXEO Pulse with Ashley Garvin. Here is yet another amazing light trail shot of his. St. Paul’s Cathedral along Cannon Street is one of the city’s most popular shooting locations, but knowing where to shoot is only part of the challenge. Here, Ashely shows us how all of us can make a popular location our own with skill and creativity. A great shot taken at a great spot!

Meanwhile at PIXEO HQ

This week at the PIXEO World Headquarters (our kitchen) Lisette and I have been working hard. I’ve been adding locations along the coasts of Cornwall in the UK and Lisette has been lost in New Zealand. The collection continues to grow by hundreds of locations every week, added by you and us. We have been simply blown away by the number and quality of submissions this month and it is clear the PIXEO Photo Challenge is a hit. We can’t wait to see what comes next and who wins this month. It’s already shaping up to be a close one.
