Hungary

Hungary is one of Europe’s smaller nations and is completely landlocked. Its countryside is mostly peaceful rolling hills and scenic plains. There is a set of low mountains in the north along the border with Slovakia. Kékes, at 1,014m above sea level, is the highest peak in the country.  Budapest is a beautiful, lively, cosmopolitan city home to 2,000-year-old Roman ruins and 400-year-old Turkish remains. Lake Balaton, the largest freshwater lake in Central Europe, is set in the heart of this beautiful countryside. Much of Hungary’s land are protected natural areas with ten beautiful national parks. These parks showcase the best of Hungary’s varied countryside. The country is dotted with castles and ruins, including the Buda Castle and citadel in Budapest, Eger castle and Visegrád citadel.
