Gold Harbour - Photo by Paul Carroll

Gold Harbour feels like a summary of South Georgia's wildlife and scenery all gathered into one place. The harbour sits scenically at the foot of the Salvesen Mountains. It's coastline consists of a large beach and moraine sprouting with tussock grass. Along the backdrop runs the hanging ice cliffs of the Bertrab Glacier. Plus the area is teeming with wildlife: 25,000 breeding pairs of king penguins, 300 gentoos, and numerous elephant seals crowd the beach from October to December―and sometimes during the summer.
