Pasterze Glacier - Photo by Jacek Dylag
Pasterze Glacier is Austria’s biggest glacier and the longest in the Eastern Alps. It sits under the shadow of Austria’s highest mountain, Grossglockner, in the heart of Hohe Tauern National Park. Unfortunately it is also retreating at an incredible rate. More than 100 years ago, the Pasterze was more than 11 kilometers long. Today, it is less than 8 km long and it lost more than half of its volume. (Pasterze Glacier, Austria)
