Built Into the Side of a Mountain, This 170-year-Old Guesthouse is Picture Perfect!

“Stunning location with a breathtaking view. Great places for photos or a beer!”

One of the most impressive and photogenic locations in all of the alps, the Aescher guesthouse is truly impressive. Built into the cliff itself, this was originally the location of hut housing farmers, their goats and cows. Then in the mid-1800s, this stunning wooden guesthouse was constructed to house pilgrims on their way to the 400-year-old Wildkirchi cave church.

Now an iconic tourist destination, visitors can enjoy not only the wonderful photographic opportunities it presents but also a cold beer and hot, hearty plates of Rösti (a highly addictive Swiss hash browns). No longer a guesthouse it now operates primarily as a restaurant. Open from May to November, it can get a bit crowded in the peak tourist seasons,

Any travelling photographer should do themselves a favour and take a visit to this amazing photo spot. The Aescher Guesthouse is accessible by foot or using the Wasserauen-Ebenalp cable car.
