Belvedere Castle - Photo by hjjanisch

A folly is a castle-like structure that is erected solely for decoration, and Belvedere Castle is Central Park's folly. This beautiful stone castle was built high on a rocky outcrop in the heart of the park. Belvedere Castle was erected in the late 1860s and its name means Beautiful View in Italian. Fun fact, the castle was used on Sesame Street for the exterior shots of Count Von Count's home in the 1970s. (New York, New York, USA)
