Enhance, Enhance, Enhance

Adobe announced their February update to Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw (ACR). This update comes with some cool new features, but the one generating buzz is the Enhance Details addition. Using machine learning, Adobe claims it can improve resolution by as much as 30%. I’ll be honest, I’ve played with it a bit, and frankly, I can’t tell the difference. For all the gory technical details and to decide for yourself if it makes any difference, check out the Adobe whitepaper here.

5 Cameras, One Photo

In other tech news, Nokia announced the latest in a series of multi-camera phones, the Nokia 9. The phone features a spider’s eye arrangement of cameras on it’s back. What looks like 7 cameras is in fact 3 Black and White, and 2 color cameras which combine to make one image. Nokia claims this results in a higher dynamic range than other phones. Included as well is depth mapping tech which allows the shooter to adjust the depth of field in post. You can find out more here.

The only thing cooler than the Last Bookstore in Los Angelas is the story of how it came to be. In addition to being a superb photo destination, owner Josh Spencer is an absolute inspiration. Check it out on our blog here.

This photo is of Alexander Zuckerberg’s Russian Chapel House. Built on Zuckerberg Island in the 1930s, the stunning wooden chapel exhibits classic Russian Orthodox architecture, down to the “onion dome” on top.

Finally, this week I’m visiting my old stomping grounds on the stunning Vancouver Island. Not only was I lucky enough to capture this sunrise shot of the Fisgard Lighthouse, I also got to spend the day yesterday shooting. This place is full of greate photo locations. For example, this photo is shot from the Esquimalt bird sanctuary. Certainly no shortage of shooting opportunities here!

🏢 Meanwhile at PIXEO HQ 🏢

So, for the rest of the week, I’m here on Vancouver Island for my day job while Lisette holds down the home fort. Needless to say, I will be travelling all over the island in my free time taking photos. This truly is one of the most stunning parts of the world. So with that in mind, I’m not going to say too much more, daylight is disappearing so it’s time for me to get outside and put some light in a box. Happy shooting everyone!

Shawn M. Kent founded PIXEO with his wife Lisette Kent in 2018. By day he is a Senior Military Photographer in the Canadian Armed Forces. After travelling the world as a military photographer, he now mostly shoots landscapes and enjoys travelling with his wife and family. Other hobbies include painting, mixed martial arts, and beer.
