Do you shoot full time or part-time?

Very part-time. Mainly just travel/holiday photography but lately I am trying to force myself outside to take more photos.

How did you get into photography?

I was lucky enough to have a job that afforded me the ability to travel. After visiting some amazing places, I decided that I really needed to up my photography game and took the steps towards capturing better memories (my actual memory is terrible, lol). In a four year period, I travelled to around fifty countries and found myself biasing each subsequent trip around photographic opportunities. More recently the biggest determinant of a holiday trip is the ability to explore beautiful locations and try to capture some of the amazing scenery.

Who would you say are your major photographic influences?

I am not schooled in the history of photography but I do overly consume both youtube tutorials and Instagram feeds. I did a google request last year and saw that I had watched over 11,000 youtube videos in 2017!

To that extent, there are so many people I have learned from. Lately, I really like: Sean Tucker, Jamie Windsor, Thomas Heaton, Nigel Danson and Nick Page.

Which photo of yours are you most proud of?

I am really still learning and my favourite photo is often the last one I took! I know I am still learning because recently did a street photography course with Sean Tucker in London and realized just how uncomfortable I am in street situations.
For some reason, I seem to gravitate more towards night photography and some of the more recent cityscape/scenes (including the one selected for the PIXEO Photo Challenge) I have quite liked.

Can you describe your process when approaching a shoot at a new photo location?

If it is for a holiday then I normally research the area a lot beforehand. I use Google images, PIXEO app and Instagram to get a general idea.
When taking a photo I try not to rush and really worry about the basics. As long as the shot is sharp, metered properly and reflects the type of effect desired, then the rest can be refined later on. For the composition I mainly think about the rule of thirds, leading lines and light. I am also quite happy to take a lot of shots of a scene and play with the parameters/composition a bit. You never really know what will work best until you throw it up on a big screen for editing.

What is your favorite photographic destination that you’ve been to and why?

There are so many obvious places to name that everyone goes to and are currently popular: Iceland, Cinque Terre Italy, Croatia etc. But recently I booked a 10 day holiday to Madeira and was very presently surprised. It has three different climates that you can experience all within 30 minutes drive. You can visit the beach, drive to the top of a mountain above the clouds and explore an eerie moisture rich foggy forest landscape within the same day.

What photo places are next on your photographic bucket list?

I am visiting Andalucía in Spain this month and have my eyes on a photo on the Puente Nuevo bridge in Ronda as well as Caminito del Rey. Other then those, I am honestly just going to drive and not have fixed plans. I have already scouted the PIXEO app for Seville, Cordoba and Granada and will probably add those to my list.

Can you describe some of the gear you can’t shoot without?

I have changed my gear so many times over the past few years in the search for the perfect combination. The most important thing for me is my 3LT tripod, without a decent tripod about 70% of my photos wouldn’t exist. For lenses, I use only two these days. The Sony 24mm F1.4 GM for the wide angles and the 70-200 F4 G for everything else. That way I can still walk around all day without feeling completely weighed down with gear. I carry everything in my peak design 15l sling, along with a 1500 lumen torch, lightweight led lighting, 50m paracord with carabiner (just in case) and a polarizer.

Where can folks find/see/buy more of your work?
