Best PIXEO Photo Location Submissions of 2018

PIXEO has inspired us, making us hunt for new and better locations for the app. Whenever we travel, hit the road, or find ourselves somewhere new, we are on the hunt for new photo spots. #ipulledoverforthis has become our new mantra. But most inspiring of all has been your submissions. We have spent the past year travelling the world through your eyes. Thank you so much for your support, continued feedback and advice. Each submission seems more amazing than the last.

We always work to find new ways to show our appreciation to those who have helped us along the way. Either by their encouragement, moral support or by their amazing submissions. So with that in mind here are the ten best photo location submissions we received in 2018. For the top spot on this list, we will be sending a $100 Amazon gift card as a token of our appreciation.

Here’s hoping next year we can give even more back to you, our amazing users!

Karen Andjelic - Quidi Vidi, Newfoundland

Quidi Vidi, Newfoundland by Karen Andjelic

Karen was our first submitter. Leading up to the app’s launch, we waited with bated breath to see if anyone would upload. We add hundreds of locations to the app every week, but without users uploading our idea of a collaborative community wouldn’t pan out. Would people other than us contribute to the collection? To be honest, we weren’t sure. Then a few hours after we launched on day one, the first photo arrived. Karen Andjelic, a tremendously talented photographer from Nova Scotia sent us the first user location, and Lisette and I both breathed a sigh of relief. She got it from the beginning, and she means the world to us for her support ever since.

Doug Golupski - Abandoned Homestead

Abandoned Homestead - Photo by Doug Golupski

Doug Golupski, what words can we find to say thanks to Doug? He is a tremendously talented, world travelling, super surf photographer….but then how do you pick a favourite submission? Well, we chose this one. Which is a bit ironic, because this photo is not typical of his usual submissions. Normally a shot from Doug is rich with colour and brightness that seems to reflect his positivity and optimism. So it only stands to reason that our favourite is the exception to the rule. We absolutely love this shot and location. Doug, we can’t thank you enough, you are absolutely awesome.

Michel Bricteux - Sea of Skyscrapers

Montreal Skyscraper View - Photo by Michel Bricteux

Michel Bricteux is our man in Montréal. His stunning images of this Canadian city have brightened our day week after week. Michel always submits great photos from his travels, but this birdseye view into the sea of skyscrapers at Av des Canadiens-de-Montréal is our favourite. Thanks to Michel, the whole world gets a chance to see the best spots to shoot what is, in my opinion, Canada’s most photogenic city.

Thank You!

Lisette and I began this adventure last April, convinced that the world needed an app that made it easy for photographers to find photo locations. As photographers, we grew tired of searching for good places to shoot either on the internet or driving around aimlessly. So, we dipped into our savings, founded our two-person company and contracted an app development company to build what we envisioned. This first year has been a wild roller coaster. Learning on the fly how to run a company, how app development works and dealing with all the challenges of refining a new app. But we have also been humbled by its success.

Features on PetaPixel, DPReview, and TechRadar blew us away, so strange to see your name in blogs you read almost daily. Then to watch as over 1,000 users sign up for the app in the first months and then to view the map fill with over 15,000 locations in its first year. It has been just amazing. This little idea of ours has genuinely taken shape and continues to grow every day.

A huge congratulations to Darren for the Shot of the Year and if you are in the mood to shoot Iceland yourself please be sure to check out our quick guide to Iceland’s best photo locations. From Lisette and I, we can’t thank you all enough for your support so far. We’ll keep working to make PIXEO an indispensable tool in your photography toolbox and working hard to promote our contributing users work. Happy New Year and here’s wishing you and yours an inspiring 2019!
