📰 Photography New Digest 📰

  • Apple has launched the 2019 edition of the Shot on iPhone Challenge. The contest runs from January 22 to February 7 and the judges include an impressive collection of professional photographers.
  • In addition, one of the judges was the former Chief Official White House Photographer under president Obama. You can check out this great Spotlight of him put together by Adorama here.
  • Speaking of youtube, PetaPixel put together a great list of landscape photographers that you should be subscribing to. Nice to see a favorite of mine, Nick Page, on that list.
  • Download your Flickr photos, or you may lose them.  As of February 5th unlimited photo storage ends for free users and they’ll be deleting any over a thousand, starting with the oldest first if you’re not paying. You can read the details here.
  • Finally, the PIXEO photography bucket list now includes the most beautiful castle in Europe, and it’s probably not the castle you’re thinking of.

🏆  PIXEO Photo Challenge  Finalist 🏆

Darren Fast blew us away this week, uploading a tonne of great shots from Iceland. Undoubtedly this one is our favourite of the bunch. So the shot of the week for the PIXEO Photo Challenge goes to Darren. We can’t get enough of the colours and tones in this shot of Reynisfjara beach. Overall we think you’ll agree, this photo is simply breathtaking.

Reynisfjara Beach, Iceland by Darren Fast

Remember how we said Darren uploaded a tonne of photos from Iceland? Well, it was hard to pick just one. Of course we couldn’t pick just one for the Newsletter. Here is another great one taken further east along the same beach. Legend has it these rock formations were trolls that got caught out at sea at dawn. Very cool and we love the low angle and long exposure. Great work Darren!

Parliament in Ottawa Ontario by ExploringOurBigWorld

Next we have Meghan (a.k.a. ExploringOurBigWorld). Meghan is a fellow Ottawa photographer and shares this frigid photo of the Canadian Parliament building. In fact, Ottawa was so cold this week it held the title for coldest capital in the world. Meghan not only braved these insane conditions but she also got this lovely winter shot of the capital. Great shot Meghan!

Blue Rocks Shack by Shawn M. Kent

Everytime I see photos of the Maritimes it brings me right back. So this week I thought I’d dig into the archives and share a favourite. I absolutely love this old shack in Blue Rocks. Well hidden in the tiny village of Blue Rocks, this shack is a hidden gem. Thankfully you can always find it with the PIXEO App 😉

Because of the insanely cold weather here in Ottawa, we’ve been hunkered down adding locations and we’ve added hundreds over the last week. In addition, you’ve helped tremendously submitting over 50 locations yourselves this week alone. Just crazy. Lisette and I are very excited to name a winner of the PIXEO Photo Challenge and we can’t wait to see who wins!

Shawn M. Kent founded PIXEO with his wife Lisette Kent in 2018. By day he is the Senior Military Photographer in the Canadian Armed Forces and Public Affairs Branch Chief Warrant Officer. After travelling the world as a military photographer, he now mostly shoots landscapes and enjoys travelling with his wife and family. Other hobbies include painting, mixed martial arts, and beer.
