Hidden in dense Laurentian forest above Saint-Adolphe-d'Howard sits the remains of CFS Lac St. Denis, a Cold War radar station built from 1949 and operational from 1952. Known as Site C-2, it was one of the oldest stations on the Pinetree Line, a network of radar sites strung along the Canada-US border to watch for a Soviet air attack. It monitored the airspace over southwestern Quebec and northeastern Ontario under NORAD until it closed in 1987, leaving behind the concrete shells and structures that now sit empty in the trees. This location is accessible by drone only. The ground site is closed off, so the shoot here is an aerial one, and the elevated vantage is what makes it work. From above, the geometry of the old foundations and structures reads clearly against the forest reclaiming them, and the contrast between hard concrete lines and the surrounding canopy is strongest from the air. Overcast light suits the raw textures, while low morning or evening sun rakes long shadows across the ruins. Fly responsibly and respect the private property below. Check Transport Canada RPAS rules and any airspace restrictions before you launch. The site sits off Chemin du Village. Note that the sign at the start of the access road marks it as private property, so respect access and shoot responsibly. Wear sturdy footwear and watch for broken glass, rubble and unstable structures. (Saint-Adolphe-d'Howard, Quebec, Canada)
