Paluküla Church was founded by the baronial family of Ungern-Sternberg in 1820. Until 1939, it was in use as a supporting chapel for the Kärdla church. In 1939, the Soviet military used the building as a warehouse and the tower as a lookout position. After the Second World War, the building was not active as a church and it served as a warehouse while being gradually abandoned.
