Abandoned Railway Overpass
This crumbling stone railway overpass spans a quiet rural road in Brant County, offering a rare double-arch composition that is hard to find anywhere else. The larger road arch and the smaller drainage ditch arch sit offset from each other, creating a layered, asymmetrical frame that rewards careful positioning. Stand on the road and shoot straight through the main arch to use it as a natural frame, or step back and work a wider angle to capture both arches together with the surrounding fieldstone texture. Overcast days are ideal here, as soft diffused light brings out the detail in the stonework without harsh shadows. Golden hour adds warmth to the aged stone and can produce nice side-lighting that emphasizes the texture. A wide to mid-range lens works well; 24-50mm covers most compositions. The structure sits roadside on Glenn Morris Rd. E. and is easily accessible on foot. (Brant, Ontario, Canada)
