About Abandoned Railway Tracks
This historic railway line now sits abandoned while passing straight through the heart of Durham. These tracks offer a strong leading line perspectives for portrait, cinematic, and moody black and white photography. Golden Hour (around 18:00) is the ideal time to capture this location when warm, low angle sunlight streams through the trees along the tracks, creating soft shadows and striking contrast. You can experiment with low angle shots that pair well with foreground elements (ones you add to the shot like boots/gear or finding loose rail ties lifting up from the ground) or dynamic depth of field portraits following the track line. These tracks are easily accessible on foot from nearby street parking. There tracks are safe to explore since this section is inactive, but always watch your step around rusty metal and tie plates. The tracks run directly in front of the Museum of Durham History. (Durham, North Carolina, USA)
