About Amboy Crater
Amboy Crater is an extinct cinder cone volcano that rises above a 70-square-kilometer lava field. The interior has a lava lake. Lava flows as old as Amboy Crater itself blanket the surrounding area. The most recent eruption was approximately 10,000 years ago. Regular desert precautions apply here: be alert for rattlesnakes, and have a hat, sunscreen, sturdy shoes, plus abundant drinking water since it can be quite a hot hike with no shade once you leave the parking area. And please be sure to leave this area just as you found it. (Amboy, California, USA)
