About Ancol Beach
Ancol Beach stretches out along the Jakarta Bay with a series of piers, lagoons and sandy stretches. One of the highlights is the unique Love Bridge, a timber walkway that runs out from the sand and curves right around to enclose a heart shaped lagoon. Walking along it lets you shoot back to highlight its curves. Depending on where you set you, you can sometimes capture the whole arc of the pier receding with open sea on one side and calm lagoon water on the other. There is also lots of space to shoot from the sand and capture the bridge with the peaceful lagoon as the foreground. Since the coast faces north, the sun drops along the water off to the west, just past the far end of the bridge, so late afternoon into dusk is the perfect time to be here. Sunset often creates amazing colours and you have lots of composition options to experiment with. Try to stay after the sun disappears when the whole walkway is lit up. If you are looking for a quieter, more peaceful time to shoot, mornings are perfect since it is usually just the fishermen selling their catch near the bridge and boats drawn up on the sand before the tourists and beachgoers arrive.
