Annecy Canals

 Annecy Canals - Photo by Ben & Gab1 / 1

The canals of Annecy's Old Town wind between pastel-colored buildings, stone arched bridges, and flower-draped facades, creating one of the most naturally composed waterfront scenes in the Alps. The Thiou canal is your main subject, and the stretch near the Palais de l'Isle, a distinctive triangular medieval building sitting directly in the water, is the most iconic frame you can get here. Shoot from the Pont des Amours or crouch low along the canal walls to maximize reflections, especially when the water is calm in the early morning. Golden hour light hits the colored facades beautifully, and the hours just after sunrise give you soft, even tones before crowds arrive. A wide to mid-range zoom works well for capturing both tight architectural details and broader canal scenes. The streets are cobbled and narrow, so a compact kit makes moving around much easier.
