Aquis Querquennis
Aquis Querquennis is a remarkably preserved Roman military camp and road station on the southern shore of the Limia River reservoir in Galicia, dating back to the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. The site's grid of stone foundations, streets, and walls creates strong geometric compositions that reward wide-angle shooting, especially from elevated vantage points within the complex. Shoot in the early morning when low raking light throws long shadows across the stone ruins, emphasizing texture and depth in ways that midday sun completely flattens. The reservoir water visible beyond the walls adds a reflective background that works well as context in wider establishing shots. A 24-35mm lens handles the spatial layout nicely, while a longer focal length lets you isolate individual wall sections and architectural details. Access is straightforward via a short footpath, and the site is generally uncrowded, giving you room to work without other visitors cluttering your frame. (Baños de Bande, Galicia, Spain)
