Arco della Pace
Arco della Pace is a towering neoclassical triumphal arch standing at the northwestern entrance to Parco Sempione, and its grand scale and ornate bas-reliefs make it one of Milan's most striking architectural subjects. Shoot from directly along Corso Sempione to use the road and flanking trees as strong leading lines converging on the arch, or step into the park for a wider perspective with greenery framing the structure. The bronze chariot and figures crowning the top photograph well with a medium telephoto in the 70-200mm range, letting you compress and isolate the sculptural detail. Early morning gives you soft, even light with minimal crowds, and the eastern face catches the first light well. The surrounding plaza is flat and open, so you can move freely to adjust your angle; getting low emphasizes the arch's height against the sky. (Milan, Lombardy, Italy)
