Arecibo Lighthouse sits out on a rocky point above the Atlantic along the northern coast of Puerto Rico. This soaring white tower dates back to 1898, when it was the last lighthouse the Spanish built on the island. The lighthouse pairs perfectly with its stunning surroundings, the bright white building, the deep blue ocean, the endless feeling sky and the dark rocky shoreline all work together to create depth and contrast. The viewing decks are the perfect spot to experiment with wide open coastal shots. Plus you can wander the grounds to find closer angles that will pair the tower against the sky. Late afternoon light is best, when the low sun warms the white walls and the sea takes on richer colour. Early morning will work nicely too before the heat sets in. The lighthouse is part of a family park, so there are replica pirate ships, a Taíno village and a small aquarium scattered around. Because of this there is an entrance fee and parking fees to access the area. Sometimes the lighthouse tower is open to visitors but it is unpredictable so it's more luck than pre-planning to be able to shoot from up there. (Arecibo, Puerto Rico)
