Arthur Ravenel Jr Bridge
The Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge is a dramatic cable-stayed span over the Cooper River, with its twin diamond-shaped towers and radiating cable lines making it one of the most photogenic bridges in the American South. For the best compositions, position yourself along the Charleston waterfront near Waterfront Park or the Pineapple Fountain, where you can frame the bridge across the harbor with room for reflections in the water. Alternatively, drive or walk to the Mt. Pleasant side for a head-on perspective looking back toward the Charleston peninsula. Sunrise is excellent, with warm light hitting the towers and the city skyline behind, while blue hour and nighttime shots reveal the bridge fully illuminated against a dark sky. A wide to standard zoom in the 24-70mm range handles most angles well, and a tripod is worth bringing for evening work. Pedestrian access onto the bridge itself also gives you elevated views of the river and surrounding marsh. (Charleston, South Carolina, United States)
