Articulated Wall

The Articulated Wall is a soaring piece of public art that is quite eye catching with its yellow paint job. It stands on the grounds of the Denver Design District, just off South Broadway and beside I-25 south of downtown. This twisting sculpture seems to endlessly shift and change as you circle around it. The core is an aircraft carrier refuelling mast, with 33 precast concrete slabs stacked around it, each one turned slightly off the one below. It's worth taking some time to walk a full lap around the sculpture before you set up your gear. From one side it appears as a solid wall. Move around and it thins to a stack of edges. Getting in close to the base let's you pair the bright yellow slabs against a rich blue sky creating amazing colour contrast. A low sun spreads across the slab edges and separates them. You can also experiment with using a long lens from the far side of the parking lot to compress the stack into a tighter column. This is a quick stop from right off the highway so it is easy to add into a Denver shooting adventures. (Denver, Colorado, USA)
