Assumption Catholic Church is a red brick country church at the edge of Charlotte, a small farming town in eastern Iowa. It's square tower stands at the front with a tall pointed spire with a cross on top. It appears on the horizon before you can see the church. The rich brick pops against the endless feeling country sky. Shooting low lets you maximize the sky and is surrounds the church's spire. Beside the church a walkway runs back between mature trees to the historic cemetery, where a tall white cross stands over the headstones. That path creates a perfect leading line out to the historic graves. The land is flat here, so the spire and the cross are the only tall things for miles. Crops shift the surroundings through the year, green in summer and gold by harvest. Winter gives the grounds an entirely different feel, almost eerie and haunted in its isolation. The parish shares a priest with several nearby churches, so expect the doors locked most of the time. Accessing the interior is more about luck than timing. (Charlotte, Iowa, USA)
