This is the only inland lighthouse in Ireland and believed to also be the only one in Europe. It seems to serve little purpose for sailing as there are numerous similar small docking areas and jetties around the lake but local lore states that it was built by the lady of nearby Ballycurrin House to guide her husband in as he came home from the pub across the lake.
