Barcelona Lighthouse
Perched on the shore of Lake Erie in a small New York harbor town, Barcelona Lighthouse is one of the oldest lighthouses on the Great Lakes and offers a compact but rewarding shoot. The stone tower and attached keeper's dwelling have a classic, weathered charm that pairs well with the surrounding rocky shoreline and open water views. Shoot from the waterline to get reflections in calm conditions, or work the foreground rocks to add texture and depth to wider compositions. A wide to mid-range zoom, something in the 24-70mm range, handles most situations well here. Golden hour light in the morning comes in from the east and wraps nicely across the stone facade, while late afternoon gives you warmer tones with the sun moving toward the water. The site is publicly accessible and easy to walk around, so take time to explore both the lakeside and harbor-facing angles. (Westfield, New York, United States)
