Bare Island
Bare Island is a small fortified island connected to the La Perouse headland by a narrow pedestrian footbridge, sitting at the edge of Botany Bay with open water views in multiple directions. The bridge itself makes a strong leading line, drawing the eye out toward the old colonial-era fort, and the weathered stone walls and rusted fortifications photograph well up close with a wide angle lens. Shoot from the shoreline rocks on either side of the bridge for low compositions with water movement in the foreground, or walk the perimeter of the island to find views back toward the headland and the bay. Golden hour light in the late afternoon hits the sandstone walls warmly and the surrounding water takes on good colour. The site is easy to reach from the La Perouse car park and the flat rock platforms around the island give you stable footing for tripod work. (La Perouse, New South Wales, Australia)
