This Gothic Revival church rises dramatically above the small Iowa town of Dyersville, its twin spires reaching 212 feet and visible for miles across the surrounding farmland. The facade is most striking when shot straight on from the street, where you can use the symmetry of the twin towers as your anchor composition. A wide angle lens in the 16-24mm range works well for capturing the full height of the spires without excessive distortion if you back up far enough. Morning light hits the front facade cleanly, while late afternoon wraps the stone exterior in warm tones. Walk around to the sides and rear to find interesting angles where the spires frame against open sky. The church sits close to the street, so crossing to the opposite sidewalk or stepping further back gives you breathing room for a full-length shot without tilting too aggressively upward.
