Battery Wallace View
Battery Wallace View is a hilltop overlook in the Marin Headlands that gives you a sweeping west-facing panorama stretching from the rugged Marin coastline all the way to Point Bonita Lighthouse, with the Pacific Ocean opening up beyond. The Golden Gate Bridge sits to your right, offering a less photographed angle than the popular tourist spots across the bay. Shoot from the concrete battery ruins to add foreground structure and depth, or step back along the ridge to compress the lighthouse and bridge into a single frame with a medium telephoto around 70-200mm. Sunset is the prime time here, with warm light raking across the headlands and the lighthouse catching a golden glow; fog rolling in from the Pacific adds dramatic atmosphere on overcast afternoons. The overlook is reached via a short uphill trail from the Battery Wallace parking area off Conzelman Road, and the exposed position means wind can be strong, so bring lens protection.
