About Big Springs Cave
Big Springs Cave sits in a small park right in center of downtown Princeton, Kentucky, where a spring runs out of the limestone at the base of a rock face. The town grew up around the cave and the spring. Cherokee detachments stopped here for water during the forced removal of 1838 and 1839, and the site is certified on the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail. A commemorative park adjoins it, with a granite monument carved in English and Cherokee. Walkways and a wooden footbridge circle the spring to create a peaceful greenspace. You will have to frame tight on the rock face and the opening if you want to keep the surrounding downtown out of your shot. Slowing the shutter lets the spring smooth out as it flows into the pool below. Winter is the best time to come. Ice builds along the rock above the spring, and the mix of flowing spring, rigid ice and surrounding snow is fun to experiment with capturing. (Princeton, Kentucky, USA)
