Bláhylur
Bláhylur is a vivid volcanic crater lake sitting in the Icelandic highlands, where electric blue-green water fills a perfectly formed caldera ringed by dark black lava ash and rust-colored earth. The color contrast here is genuinely striking, and the relatively small scale of the crater means you can capture the full scene without a wide angle, though a 16-35mm will help you include the dramatic rim and water together in a single frame. Walk the crater edge to find the highest point on the rim, where you get a direct top-down view into the blue water below. Overcast days actually work well here because flat light saturates the blues and suppresses harsh shadows on the textured lava. The site is accessible via the F208 highland road, which requires a 4x4 with high clearance; plan your visit between June and September when the road is open.
