Blue Lake is a small man-made lake surrounded by rolling rock formations. It was the result of sluicing operations that began in 1873 when John Ewing formed the St.Bathans Channel Company, to mine the Kildare Hill Gold Claim. There is an easy one hour walk along the spectacular cliffs and sluiced areas with iron remnants still scattered around. This is a conservation area and fully protected, so please be sure to leave this area just as you found it for others to enjoy. (St Bathans, New Zealand)
