Perched on a dramatic rocky headland at the edge of Bolungarvík, this compact red and white lighthouse sits against a backdrop of steep mountain slopes dropping directly into the frigid waters of the Westfjords. The contrast between the bold geometric structure and the raw, jagged coastline is what makes this spot so compelling. Shoot from below to emphasize the lighthouse against the sky and mountains, or pull back wide to include the sweeping fjord and surrounding peaks in your frame. A wide angle lens in the 16-24mm range works well here. Golden hour light, which in summer can last for hours at these latitudes, wraps the scene in warm tones that play beautifully against the dark volcanic rock. The road from Ísafjörður is accessible by regular car, and the site itself is easy to walk around. Watch for unpredictable coastal winds. (Bolungarvík, Westfjords, Iceland)
