About Bove Island Viewpoint
Bove Island Viewpoint looks out over a peaceful section of of Tagish Lake and the thickly wooded Bove Island just south of Carcross. Two wooden viewing decks sit just off the Klondike Hwy, complete with info panels and stunning views From the clearing, Bove Island easily fills the foreground, with open water and layered mountains behind. On a clear dayLime Mountain rises across the bay to dominate your background. Having a telephoto lens in your kit will let you compress the island against the far slopes and stack the ridge lines together tightly. The upper deck gives you a slightly different view, where you can experiment with using a wider lens to take in the full sweep of the lake. This is generally a quiet viewpoint so you will have lots of time and space to explore both decks before you set up to find just the right view out over the island. The wind blow hard through this section of the lake on most days, so the water usually carries a ripple or waves. If you are very lucky you may get to be here on one of the rare calm days when the island and peaks will double in a smooth lake mirror. Late spring brings a completely different feel to the view as touches of green slowly move back in. The lake is sometimes still locked in white ice well into May. The pullout is easy to spot on the left as you head south from Carcross toward Skagway. If you come early in the day you should have to place to yourself and be able to capture some amazing sunrise colours. (Carcross, Yukon, Canada)
