The Bridges of Ross is a dramatic natural sea arch carved into the wild Atlantic coastline of County Clare, one of the few remaining arches after two others collapsed into the sea over time. The single surviving arch is the centrepiece, and you can frame it from the cliff edges with the churning ocean filling the background, or position yourself lower to capture waves surging through and beneath the opening. Stormy and overcast conditions are genuinely your friend here; moody skies and rough seas bring out the raw character of the rock in a way that flat light simply cannot match. A wide angle lens works well for capturing the full sweep of the arch and surrounding cliffs, while a longer exposure during heavy swell adds drama to the water. The cliffs are uneven and can be slippery when wet, so wear sturdy footwear and keep well back from the edges. (Clare County, Ireland)
