Burg Lüdinghausen

Burg Lüdinghausen is a moated castle that sits right in the middle of town. There has been a manor here all the way back the 1200s when it was a knight's seat, but what you see now mostly dates back to the Renaissance. The oldest surviving wing dates back to 1573. The water that surrounds it on all sides comes from an old system of moats fed by the Stever River. These days the castle is home to a cultural centre for the town and the grounds are open parkland. The moat is often sitting perfectly still so it's an amazing spot to experiment with reflection photography. There is lots of space to find the ideal spot where the calm moat mirrors the castle walls and rooftops. Peaceful mornings will give the cleanest mirror. The park around the castle is open to explore so you can experiment with finding your favourite angles through the willows and across the water. This is the quieter of Lüdinghausen's two big castles. Burg Vischering sits just a few minutes away, and is the more famous one, so it's easy to capture both in your visit to the area. (Lüdinghausen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany)
