Cabo Matxitxako, just outside Bermeo on Spain’s Basque coast, is home to two lighthouses, an old 19th-century stone tower and a newer operational lighthouse, both perched above the Atlantic. The older lighthouse, now retired, stands closer to the cliffs with a weathered stone design that fits the wild, exposed coastline. Just inland, the modern lighthouse continues to serve maritime traffic and adds contrast with its clean lines and fenced compound. The area offers sweeping views of the Bay of Biscay, especially dramatic in rough weather or golden light. A small parking area and interpretive signs are available at the site, and Gaztelugatxe is only a short drive away. This location is ideal for photographers interested in coastal scenes, layered perspectives, and changing light. (Cabo Matxitxako, Basque Country, Spain)
