Campanile di Curon is all that is left of the town of Curon Venosta. It was flooded shortly after WWII when a dam was built for a hydroelectric plant which required merging two large lakes. The town was buried forever under 120 million cubic meters of freshwater, with only the church's bell tower visibly above the water line. It's quite surreal sight to see the church tower rising so majestically from the water. In the winter when the lake freezes you can walk right out to the bell tower. (South Tyrol, Italy)
