Canal View
The Oosterpoortbrug is a graceful stone arch bridge spanning a quiet canal in the historic center of Hoorn, framed by traditional Dutch gabled buildings and the medieval Oosterpoort gate, the last surviving city gate in the city. The canal path running alongside the water gives you a low, long perspective where the bridge arches reflect cleanly in the still water, especially on calm mornings when there is little wind. Shoot from the towpath level to maximize the reflection and use the canal itself as a leading line pulling toward the gate. A standard zoom or short telephoto in the 35-85mm range works well here for compressing the background architecture. Golden hour light in the late afternoon and early evening catches the warm stone beautifully and adds depth to the arches. The path is flat and easy to walk, with enough room to set up a tripod without blocking foot traffic. (Hoorn, North Holland, Netherlands)
