About Capo Carbonara
Capo Carbonara is a rugged point with endless feeling views looking out over the Mediterranean. Isola dei Cavoli sits just offshore with its eye catching lighthouse that has been working since the 1850s. Late in the day the sun comes over your shoulder and lands on the lighthouse, since the island sits to the southeast of this rugged point. Sunrise put the light on your left side with the sun popping up over the open water and the tower becomes back lit in soft tones. Ideally you will want to have a long lens in your kit, because that kilometre of hazy air eats detail fast. This is a great spot to experiment with using wider lenses using the granite and scrub on the point to pair with the island small out on the water. The only way to reach this point is to hike it along one of the area's two scenic trails. Make sure to take the other trail on your way back to capture the views down both sides of the promontory. The sea around the cape is a marine reserve, so restrictions apply surrounding the water. Aim to be there for either sunrise or sunset to capture the peaceful views and amazing colours. Plus this is an amazing spot to experiment with astrophotography. (Villasimius, South Sardinia, Italy)
