Cardrona Hotel

Established in 1863 during the gold rush era, it is one of the country’s oldest hotels and is an irresistible stop along this scenic route. The low wooden building, weathered exterior, and vintage signage give a rustic feel with open fields and mountains rising behind it. The front yard, fences, and surrounding space make it easy to frame the full façade, while the valley backdrop adds depth without clutter. Straight on compositions work well here, especially when the building is evenly lit. Early morning or late afternoon offers softer light and fewer people, while winter can add snow for a different look. Easy roadside access and nearby parking make it a simple stop to shoot.
