Carrigafoyle Castle was built by Conor Liath O'Connor-Kerry in the 1490s and considered one of the strongest of Irish fortresses. Today there is still a spiral staircase all the way to the top with a number of intact rooms with views that are fantastic looking up and down the Shannon Estuary also over the old stronghold fort to the west of the castle.
