Castelo dos Mouros, or the Moorish Castle, is a medieval fortress set high in the Sintra hills, surrounded by dense forest and overlooking the town below. Its winding stone walls and watchtowers stretch across the ridgeline, offering dramatic perspectives and panoramic views that extend to the Atlantic Ocean on clear days. Photographers will find strong compositions in the contrast between rugged battlements and the lush greenery of the Serra de Sintra. The castle is easily reached by shuttle, car, or a scenic hike from Sintra’s historic center. Early morning or late afternoon provides the best light and fewer visitors.
