Castillo de Colomares (Colomares Castle) looks like a castle right out of a fairy tale but it is actually a tribute to Christopher Columbus and the discovery of America. That was the work of Esteban Martín, who began the project in the project in 1987 along with two bricklayers and laid the last stone seven years later. Through different materials, such as stone, brick or wood, the monument tells the story of the discovery of the American continent in various scenes. Among them is a representation of the expedition’s three ships and an image of Saint Salvador in honour of San Salvador Island. The architecture takes inspiration from a mixture of different styles, such as the Neo-Roman, Neo-Byzantine, Neo-Gothic and Neo-Mudéjar eras. (Benalmádena, Spain)
