Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace Interior

This historic Honolulu cathedral offers a surprisingly intimate interior for architectural and available-light photography, with its simple yet elegant nave drawing the eye toward the altar. The white walls and warm wood accents create a clean, uncluttered palette that works well in natural light filtering through the windows. Shoot from the rear of the nave using a wide angle lens to compress the rows of pews into strong leading lines pointing toward the altar, or move closer and work the details of the sanctuary for tighter compositions. Midmorning light tends to be soft and even inside, avoiding the harsh contrasts that come later in the day. Bring a lens with good low-light capability or shoot wide open, as interiors can be dim.
