The Point Estero was a commercial fishing vessel that had originated from Morro Bay Harbor. On July 28th, 2017, on its way back to Morro Bay, it unfortunately ran aground at the eastern part of Estero Bluff State Park. The shipwreck sits in a unique limbo - the owner has given it up, the Coast Guard is not allowed to salvage vessels touching the ground and the boat technically sits on the property of a State Park. Since the vessel is stuck in a state park, the State Lands Commission does have the authority to remove the ship, but the commission has no funding for shipwreck removal. So the shipwreck remains slowly rusting away just along the shoreline of Estero Bluffs State Park. We suggest going at low tide, as during high tide you may not be able to get very close to the ship, and much of the cove that the ship sits in will be under water. From just the right angle you can see also see Morro Bay Rock in the background. (Cayucos, California, USA)
