Chain of Rocks Bridge is a mile-long truss bridge that spans the mighty Mississippi and connects Missouri to Illinois. In addition to its beautiful trusses, the bridge is notable for its sharp bend midway across the river. The bridge gets its name from the rocky rapids found along the river north of St. Louis. The Chain of Rocks bridge was once a part of Route 66, and construction was completed in 1928. The bridge was used as part of the historic highway until the New Chain of Rocks Bridge was built in 1968. The bridge remained disused and abandoned until being restored and opened to the public in 1999. Today it has been converted to a bike path and is a lovely photography spot.
