Chandragiri Cable Car

The Chandragiri Cable Car climbs to the ridge of Chandragiri Hills at roughly 2,550 metres. It runs an incredible 38 gondolas over 11 towers, taking about 10 minutes each way. You won't have much time to shoot while inside the cable car so face back down the line on the way up and the Kathmandu Valley opens out behind you. Turn forward near the top and the Himalaya come over the ridge, from Dhaulagiri in the west across to Everest. Ideally try and get your lens right against the glass to cut reflections. At the top there's a viewing tower, and the Bhaleshwor Mahadev temple sits a short walk along the ridge. October through December brings the clearest air, so even when the valley is hazy, the summit often sits above the cloud cover. There's lot of parking at the base station and you will need a ticket to access the cable car. Queues often build on weekends and holidays so aim to come on a weekday if you can and try to take the first cars of the day. (Chandragiri, Bagmati Province, Nepal)
