About Chiesa di San Vigilio
Chiesa di San Vigilio is a small church sitting surrounded by vine yards on a hill above Col San Martino. Uniquely its tall bell tower now has a distinctive clock face, and the slopes below are covered in narrow grassy terraces of Prosecco vines. Parts of the stone chapel date back to the early 1100s. During the First World War, troops used it as a lookout over the valley. From the road on the way up to the church you can pause to use the rows of rich green vines as amazing leading lines. At the top of the hill you can capture the amazing view as it stretches out across the Piave valley. Low morning or evening sun highlights each terrace of vines as they climb the hillside. Autumn is an amazing time to be here. Once the harvest is in, the vine leaves turn yellow and red right up to the church walls. To get there requires some effort since you will have to head up the hill on foot and following Via San Vigilio as it winds up through the vineyards. It's a steep walk but the views are definitely worth the effort! (Farra di Soligo, Treviso, Italy)
