St. Thomas Church (Cerkev sv. Tomaža nad Praprotnim) is an amazing little gem sitting alone on a grassy knoll with the Alps behind it. The white stonework of the church contrast beautifully with the rich green tones of the grassy hillside and trees that dot the grounds. Mornings are the ideal time to be here. Early morning fog usually settles into the valley below, and from the hilltop the church sits high with the mist spreading out in every direction. Low sunrise light warms the white walls, which lets them pop against a rich blue sky. The church is no longer has an active parish or services so you can't access the interior. It does sit on well maintained grounds so there is lots of space to experiment with angles to find just the right compositions to suit your shooting style. A paved road climbs from Praprotno, just off road 403, and walking it takes just under an hour. There is a very small parking lot along Sv. Tomaž, but there isn't always space and the road is very narrow. From the village it's a short climb up the grassy slope to the church. (Škofja Loka, Upper Carniola, Slovenia)
